A branch caught at the moment it bends under its own flowering. Deep teal and green leaves fall in from the top of the canvas, and blue and pink contour lines run over and through them, tracing a second structure across the surface. The blossom itself sits low and heavy at the centre, white against the dark, with the pale ground opening up behind.
I painted this in late summer, watching the butterflies that landed in the studio on the canvas.
